The Kia Sonet has been launched in India with introductory prices starting at Rs 6.71 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The compact SUV has garnered much attention since its debut in concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo, and more recently, when Kia unveiled the production-ready car. It is available in 6 variants broadly classified into two trim levels - Tech Line and GT Line.

The Sonet shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Venue. It measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,647 mm in height and its wheelbase is 2,500 mm. It has a ground clearance of 211 mm and the boot space is 392 litre.

The Sonet GT Line gets a dual-tone exterior with red highlights. It comes with LED headlights and LED tail lights with a reflector bar that stretches across the tail gate. The car gets a sunroof and dual-tone alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Sonet comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment head-unit that has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and UVO Connect features including voice assist and telematics. Some of the other notable features include ventilated front seats, wireless charging with cooling function, air purifier with display, automatic climate control with rear air-con vents, 7-speaker Bose audio system, ambient lighting, cruise control and digital speedometer. The GT Line trim also comes with three driving modes - Normal, Eco and Sport. Safety features include 6-airbags, ABS with EBD coupled with Brake Assist, ESC and Traction Control, Hill Assist Control and Vehicle Stability Management.

The Sonet is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Of the two petrol engines on offer, the first is a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated unit making 83-hp and 115-Nm of torque. This engine can only be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox and is limited to the lower trim levels. The other option is a 1.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that produces 120-hp and 175-Nm of torque. This engine can be had with either a 6-speed iMT gearbox (a clutch-less manual) or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

Coming to the diesel engine, it is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged unit that produces 100-hp and 240-Nm when paired to the 6-speed manual gearbox. However, when fitted with the 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, it makes 115-hp and 250-Nm (up by 15hp and 10Nm). The Sonet is currently the only offering in the compact SUV segment to come with a diesel-torque converter gearbox combination.
