After its 7-year production run, Jaguar has finally given the Jaguar F-Type a facelift. The new 2020 Jaguar F-type now looks leaner and meaner than it has ever looked. The F-Type can be had either as a coupe or a convertible.
With its swept back headlights, elongated face, wider grill and more muscular and aerodynamic lines, the new F-Type looks like it came straight out of a poster on your bedroom wall.
On the inside, the instrument cluster is now a 12.3-inch digital unit. The new F-Type also gets a ‘Touch Pro’ touchscreen infotainment system. There is now an option to opt for performance light weight seats wrapped in ‘Windsor’ Leather, which hold you tight and snug and are 12-way adjustable with heating and cooling options. You get five options for cabin lighting too, giving the interior a touch of personalization.
Gone is the V6 F-type, gone with it is the manual transmission and the SVR variant. Under the hood you can now either get a 2.0 litre turbo charged inline 4 making around 296 Bhp and 400 Nm of torque or one of the two available v8 options, one a 5.0 litre unit out of the previous gen SVR making about 567 Bhp and 700 Nm of torque, and the other also a 5.0 litre unit putting out about 444 Bhp and 580 Nm of torque called the P450. All the engine options will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, derived from the learning from the Jaguar Project 8.
P450 can be had either in AWD or in RWD marking this the return of the rear wheel drive setup to the V8 F-Type line-up after a long hiatus, last seen in 2016. Tweaks to the electronically controlled mechanic diff and traction control has resulted in an easier and more stable RWD setup compared to before. These tweaks have done wonders making the P450 with rear wheel drive less of a handful to control. Even with the AWD setup the car does not lose out on driving engagement as the Jaguar AWD system has always been rear biased.
Jaguar has also updated the suspension setup by giving the F-Type fresh adaptive dampers, springs, anti-roll bars, thicker and beefier upper ball joints and rear knuckles and has also recalibrated the electric power steering software.
The F-Type has always been known for its exhaust note and with this new facelift, things have only gotten better with the exhaust still putting out its demonic sound track. The 8-speed automatic gearbox, a derivative of Jaguar’s Project 8, makes sure that the shifts are faster and meaner resulting in the upshifts sounding a lot more than just kiddy farts. The exhaust and the angry upshifts together make the F-type one of the best if not the best sounding monster in the Jaguar stable.
The 2020 F-Type is expected to be priced at INR 90 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the inline 4 variant and seems likely to go up to INR 2.8 crore for the top of line variant. Follow us on all our socials and let us know, what do you think of the new 2020 Jaguar F-Type? We for one love it.
