LandRover today launched the second generation Evoque here in India built on the new Premium Transverse Architecture.
At launch, the Evoque is available only with Diesel engines option, and the Petrol variants will follow soon. Available in 2 variants, the S and sportier R-Dynamic SE derivatives, the prices for the diesel BS-VI compliant, Ingenium Powertrains, are at 54.94 lacs and 59.85 lacs respectively.
Speaking about the engines, the 2.0 litre Diesel engine produces roughly 180 hp and 430 Nm of torque while the turbo charged petrol 2 litre Petrol produces roughly 245 hp and 365 Nm of torque. No prizes here for guessing, which one is going to be more peppier.
A quick look at the car and you realise that, not much has changed from the car it replaces. Which is a good thing. However, look closely, and you start noticing subtle yet significant changes. To start off which the overall design elements, which are crafted from the elder sibling, the Velar. Owning to the compact silhouette of this SUV, in our opinion, the Evoque, looks much more hotter and shall we say- Sexy. Adding to the compact silhouette is its distinctive fast sloping roofline which further accentuates its sleek appearance.
On the front, now you have slimmer adaptive LED headlights, with LandRover signature DRL’s with integrated turn indicators. On the rear, the slim tail-lights, instantly remind you of the Velar, as it carries similar design theme. What more, it carries the same flush deployable door handles, that fans of Velar are crazy about.
To differentiate the S variant with the R Design, the latter comes with aggressively styled front bumpers with burnished copper accents available, adding to its sportiness.
Riding on 18 inch wheels in India, the alloy designs in our opinion on both the variants, look pretty plain as compared to the overall vehicle.
While the Evoque has the powered tailgate, but is misses on the gesture controlled tail gate.
Step inside the Evoque and you realise that the Evoque now is loaded with technology just like its elder siblings.
The Touch Pro Duo, which is available on the R-Dynamic SE, combines an adjustable upper touchscreen with a lower touchscreen, which offers customers with elevated input convenience. The vehicle also sports an Interactive Driver Display behind the steering wheel, which shows a vast amount of driving information and active safety data, along with holistic media controls.
Driver assistance features such as Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor and 360° Parking Aid with rear camera, Clear Exit Monitor and Rear Traffic Monitor make the driving experience relaxed and safe. A new thing here is cleverly innovative, Clear Exit Monitor & Rear Traffic Monitor, it basically helps the passengers exit the vehicle safely by providing a warning of approaching hazards, such as passing vehicles if any. When the passenger begins to open the door by unlatching the door, a small warning light will illuminate if an hazard is detected.
What we particularly also loved as a feature is segment first, “ClearSight rear-view mirror, that transforms into an HD video screen. If rear visibility is compromised by passengers or bulky items, the driver simply flicks a switch on the underside of the mirror and a camera feed from the top of the car displays what is behind the vehicle in crisp high definition. The screen provides a wider (50 degree) field of vision and superior visibility in low light.
Range Rover Evoque, at the end of the day is a LandRover, and how can any landRover be complete without its phenomenal off-roading capabilities. Coupled with AWD and LandRover’s patented Terrain Response 2, the system detected the driving conditions and systematically selects the most suitable terrain setting, thus taking away the stress from the driver.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar LandRover said, “The Range Rover Evoque has always been the most stylish and distinguished compact SUV in its category. Carrying forth this legacy, the New Range Rover Evoque packs fresh enhancements in design and technology, setting new standards in refinement and capability. We are confident that our latest offering with its sophisticated design and high technology quotient will build strong appeal amongst all Land Rover fans.”
Well, we quite agree with Mr. Suri here, the Range Rover Evoque, especially in its Eiger Grey Colour Palette, looks stunning for sure, or shall we say- Sexy.
