Mercedes Benz V Class launched in India at Rs 68.40 lakh. Here's your break-down

Before we get into the actual variants, specifications or engine options, let's briefly understand what the V Class is all about. The V Class is an ultra luxurious minivan which Mercedes claims to combine comfort and luxury on a grand scale. This roughly translates to a MPV, which is 5370 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3430 mm. The V Class for now will be imported from Spain and would be sold as a CBU. That partly explains why its expensive.

Powering this 2 ton vehicle is Mercedes's tried and tested 2.2 litre, four cylinder diesel engine which generates and healthy 161 HP and 380 NM of torque. Quite interestingly it's the 7G-Tronic gearbox that is doing the duty here and not the flagship 9G-Tronic. We feel, the latter would have been a good choice.

Step inside the cabin, and you are greeted with a flowing dashboard which is set in two tone colour with Mercedes Style rotary AC vents flaked by a floating centre screen. The instrument cluster is twin pod with an MID in centre. .

Think Mercedes, and you tend to think Safety too, just like Volvo. And the V Class gets a host of safety features. Amongst, the standard affair of multiple assists available, we particularly were intrigued with the Crosswind Assist. What it particularly does is it eliminates the effects of gusts of wind acting on the vehicle, within the bounds of the laws of physics. Crosswind Assist is automatically activated at speeds above 80 kmph and uses the sensors of the standard fit ESP.

Mercedes has launched the V Class in two variants. Base version, the Expression Line is priced at Rs 68.40 lakh ex-showroom India and the top of the line variant, the Exclusive Line is priced at 81.90 Lakh again ex-showroom India.

For the price bracket that the Mercedes Benz has launched this car, almost touching a crore for the top of the line, Exclusive Variant, the guys at Mercedes will have to sweat it out to achieve significant sales numbers. India predominantly has not been welcoming to luxury estates and MPV's. However having said that, the V Class is definitely a perfect blend of luxury, convenience, comfort and space.
